There is a feeling among many people that chandeliers are a lighting solution exclusively for large and grand homes, owned by rich and prosperous people.
While it is of course impossible to deny that the lights are a key part of many of the country's most opulent domestic settings, it should not be presumed by those of you with less prestigious addresses that a crystal chandelier is not exactly what you are looking for.
Indeed, the design of many items – including chandeliers – has advanced so greatly in recent years that the products can be used in almost any room. With special chandeliers tailored for spaces with low ceilings, for example, there is no excuse for not enjoying the very best the lighting industry has to offer.
Freelance writer Chamal Lamers, penning a piece for the San Francisco Chronicle, has become the latest observer to lavish praise on chandeliers. The author suggested that it is only normal to have "all sorts of ostentatious images" conjured up by the idea of the solution.
"While that gilt-and-crystal stereotype certainly might have held up once, we're fortunate enough to decorate during a period when chandeliers have been pared down and re-imagined for less formal environments," she stated.
One famous face known to be a fan of crystal chandeliers is US pop singer Christina Aguilera. She has recently put her mansion in Beverly Hills up for sale, with the Daily Mail revealing it boasts a number of chandeliers, including one lipstick red model in the entrance foyer.
But this does not mean you need to target such grandeur. Indeed, Ms Lamers added that unfussy and low-key does not necessarily have to mean dull. She urged everybody – whether you live in a mansion or a terraced house – to invest in the designs, which will provide an effortless "natural edge".
