Solar lights owners affected by government appeal

Investing in solar lights is just one of many potential routes homeowners in the UK can go down in a bid to benefit from an energy-efficient home.

However, the amount of cash they are given by the government for running technology with the environment in mind could be set to change once a court case is resolved.

Friends of the Earth has commented on the government's decision to appeal to the Supreme Court about its solar tariff proposal. Westminster bosses had come up with a plan to reduce the amount of cash they hand out to Britons who follow green rulings by producing their own energy.

But this has been deemed illegal by the High Court – something the government disagrees with and is prepared to appeal against.

Andy Atkins, executive director at Friends of the Earth, is against the appeal. He said: "If ministers want to protect families from soaring fuel bills they must get the nation off its fossil fuel hook - and restore business confidence in the government's commitment to a clean energy future.

"This misguided appeal will only add to the uncertainty hovering over the renewable clean energy industry and the tens of thousands of people it employs."

Homeowners with solar lights in place – or plans to install them in a bid to drive down their power costs – may be hoping the subsidies remain in place.

Sarah McAllister, director of FengShuiAgency.com, recently advised businesses to invest in low-energy lighting solutions in order to keep their foyers and entrance areas bright, airy and clean.

There are sure to be many people around the UK – both in charge of firms and houses – who share her view and have been harnessing the sun's energy in order to fuel their lighting.

If you want to do your bit for the environment and enjoy aesthetically-pleasing interior and exterior lighting, solar solutions could be the best choice.
