Living near the sea can play havoc on outdoor light fixtures. The salty atmosphere can corrode and rust, whilst extreme weather conditions can damage light fittings. Most external lighting is not designed to withstand tough coastal climatic conditions, therefore we have some fantastic ranges of Coastal Outdoor Lighting created to endure the seaside elements.
The Elstead Coastal Collection has been specifically designed with a Polymer body and polycarbonate diffusers that are U.V. and impact resistant and corrosion proof, ideal to combat the demands of Coastal areas. They use Clic-Clac technology for easy assembly and installation and each Class II fitting is manufactured to IP44 rating. Another very useful feature is the twist and lock system which allows multiple options on how the light fitting is assembled e.g. the wall lantern bracket can be placed above or below the lamp housing to create an up lantern or down lantern, to best suit your needs.
The contemporary Elstead Glenbeigh Coastal Range has striking opal globe polycarbonate diffusers and includes a lamppost, which would look impressive in your seaside garden, a pillar, a flush porch light which can be inverted to be a pedestal light, ideal for use on brick walls, a wall lantern that can be upward or downward facing and a porch chain pendant for exposed covered areas. Also available are the Kerry and Kinsale Coastal Lighting ranges, more suited for the traditional coastal home or cottage by the sea.
The new Konstsmide Mode collection is also designed to be corrosion resistant in Coastal and Agricultural environments. This is due to a form of galvanization to the metal called Hot-dip galvanizing. This is the process of coating iron, steel or aluminum with a thin zinc layer, by passing the metal through a molten bath of zinc at a temperature of around 860 °F (460 °C). When exposed to the atmosphere, the pure zinc (Zn) reacts with oxygen (O2) to form zinc oxide (ZnO), which further reacts with carbon dioxide (CO2) to form zinc carbonate (ZnCO3), a usually dull grey, fairly strong material that stops further corrosion in many circumstances, protecting the steel below from the elements. Galvanized steel is widely used in applications where rust resistance is needed, and can be identified by the crystallization patterning on the surface (often called a “spangle”). The simply designed Mode range comes with a 25 year guarantee, is IP54 rated and includes a lamppost, pillar light, pedestal/pathway light and wall light.
So whether you live in the stunning but often tempestuous coasts of the Scottish Highlands and Islands or down in sunny Devon and Cornwall, you can still have gorgeous outdoor lighting that will stand up to the extreme Coastal conditions.
