For many people, Christmas is all about darts!
With the PDC World Championships at the Alexandra Palace in London and the BDO World Championships at the Lakeside Country Club shortly after, December and January are the biggest two months of the year for darts fans.
This means that a lot of fans and players will be getting dart boards for Christmas.
One of the most important things is learning how to light a dart board properly.
David King of the darts fan website Darts501.com, suggests how to light a dart board as follows: “A good lighting system should effectively light the board evenly and eliminate any shadow a dart could cast by secondary lighting.”
The cheapest and easiest way to light a dart board is with a single spotlight fixed to either the wall or the ceiling, like the one pictured directly above. This is the most common solution and is ideal for amateur players, but if you take the game a bit more seriously you might want to eliminate the shadows and uneven lighting across the board.
One way to reduce shadow is by using more than one light. Strip spotlights like the one pictured at the top of the article are widely available and help to provide the secondary lighting required to eliminate shadows.
You also might want to consider using picture lights, like the one below, to light your dart board.
If you are setting up a board for kids or beginners then make sure it is placed far enough above the dart board to avoid stray darts and make sure all wires etc are safely out of sight where they can’t be damaged by a dart.
